In 1919, the Ontario Hockey Association donated the Memorial Cup in remembrance of Canadians who made the supreme sacrifice for their country during the First World War. Rededicated in 2010 to the memory of all members of the Canadian Armed Forces who have died in the line of duty, the Cup has become one of hockey’s oldest and most cherished prizes.

This stamp, designed by Paprika in Montréal with illustrations by Louis Hébert, features a faceoff between two players of the Regina Pats wearing vintage and current uniforms. The design, inspired by the Canadian flag, highlights the passion Canadians feel for the Memorial Cup. The Official First Day Cover includes a photo of two members of the Canadian Armed Forces holding the Cup – a tribute to its origin – and is canceled in Regina where, in 2018, the coveted trophy will be presented for the 100^th time.

The team at Paprika used the shape of the stamp products to create a unique look. "The long booklet evokes the banners that hang in the arenas of Memorial Cup champions," says stamp designer Daniel Robitaille, adding that the rink-like OFDC, with the players at the centre, captures the energy of an exciting Memorial Cup game.
