I accidentally put a letter in a mailbox. Can I retrieve it?
Once a letter has been mailed, it cannot be intercepted. It must be delivered to the destination address.
However, if your letter is undeliverable because of issues such as a wrong address, no address, or the recipient has moved or passed away, it will be:
- Returned to you at no charge if a return address appears on the envelope.
- Forwarded to the correct address if the recipient has signed up for Mail Forwarding™ service.
Where no return address is provided, we open the letter. If we find a return address within, we return it to you for a fee.
Since we cannot investigate or provide a status on letters sent through regular mail delivery, we cannot provide an estimate of when the letter will be returned to you.
