Celebrate the 100^th anniversary of one of Canada’s greatest contributions to medical research with this special wrap roll featuring one of two versions of the 2021 $2 Discovery of Insulin coin.

Each Special Wrap Roll contains 25 Discovery of Insulin circulation coins. The coins come neatly rolled up in a custom paper wrap that complements the coin design. None of these coins have been circulated – they still have a newly minted look.

Designed by Jesse Koreck, the coin’s reverse proudly celebrates a Canadian scientific breakthrough and features engraved depictions of insulin in monomeric form and at work in the bloodstream.

Insulin was discovered in 1921 by Frederick Banting, Charles Best, James Collip and John Macleod at the University of Toronto. For their work, Banting and Macleod were jointly awarded the 1923 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine; they chose to share the prize money with Best and Collip. In 1934, Banting was knighted, becoming Sir Frederick Banting. Today, millions of people with diabetes continue to be treated with this life-saving drug.
