Important information for customers affected by wildfires in Quebec communities

Wildfires are affecting mail and parcel delivery in certain communities. Canada Post has implemented contingency measures to serve residents of these communities and to keep them connected.

As of June 16, wildfires are impacting mail services to the following Quebec communities:
- Desmeloizes
- Lac Simon
- Lebel-sur-Quévillon
- Normétal
- Waswanipi

Mail for Normétal and Desmeloizes residents is available for pick up at:
La Sarre Post Office
77 2nd Street East
Open Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 5 pm

Please remember to bring valid government-issued photo identification to pick up your mail.

Free Mail Forwarding service now available

Effective June 16, Eligible residents can receive free Mail Forwarding service for up to 12 months.

Mail Forwarding is an important service not just for ongoing mail, but it also provides a vital link with government and relief agencies going forward. If you receive regular cheques through the mail, it’s important for you to register.

By registering, Canada Post will be able to ship mail to a different address selected by the customer. This can be done on a short-term basis or for longer periods, even if the address is temporary.

Impacted residents with the following postal codes have until July 14 to register for the free service:
- Chapais: G0W 1H0
- Chibougamau: G8P
- Desmeloizes: J0Z 1V0
- Lac Simon: J0Y 3M0
- Lebel-sur-Quévillon: J0Y 1X0
- Normétal: J0Z 3A0
- Waswanipi: J0Y 3C0

Eligible residents can register with a credit card and government-issued ID by following the steps below.
- Go online at canadapost.ca/mailforward. Note that you will have to provide a credit card payment in order to authenticate the transaction but you will be refunded in 5-10 business days. We apologize for this inconvenience, but to make this available quickly, we have had to take this approach.
- Go to any post office in Quebec. You will not be required to show a credit card, just your government-issued photo ID. Retail employees will help you with the process, which is free of charge.

For impacted residents in Quebec with a government-issued ID bearing an eligible postal code, but no credit card, you can register:
